Monday December 15th "Bill of Rights Day"
We are blessed with so many beautiful and abundant species of birds in Tokeneke. On Monday morning at about 8:00 I heard the lonely call of the Loon. I had never heard a Loon here before, in the two years I have been out walking my dogs numerous times daily. After hearing the Loon I decided to start this blog to note my findings. I did not actually see the bird, but it sounded very close, somewhere in Penny Glassmeyer's pond, (at their old house) just behind the Cross Street Bridge. I have also seen a pair of Great Blue Herons just off the Cross Street Bridge since early December. I have often seen one, but think this pair are here to stay. Also have noticed the absence of song birds and birds at my feeder since this summer. There seem to more small hawks about, and possibly the two pairs of Osprey I used to see daily last summer are sending them into hiding. Never had seen what I call the "junk birds," the Blue Jays and Mockingbirds before last summer. I think they don't mind construction noise and other signs of human activity. When I first moved to Tokeneke I remember seeing more birds of the deep woodlands.
